CCU - Serving the Chuch of England

The Council for Christian Unity

Serving the Church of England's ecumenical and inter-Church relationships

The Church of England is committed to fostering the visible unity of presently separated Christian churches.

The Council for Christian Unity (CCU) supports the Church of England in seeking the unity of the Christian Church through ecumenical conversations, local unity initiatives, theological research and reflection.

In matters of theology, the House of Bishops and CCU support the Faith and Order Commission

CCU's practical work includes:

  • Ecumenical Relations in England
  • Ecumenical Relations in Europe
  • Local Unity in Mission
  • Faith and Order

CCU provides resources offering practical advice and theological reflection on a range of ecumenical matters and also produces a variety of papers and publications.

The Church of England is in communion with Churches and Provinces of the Anglican Communion and with a number of other overseas Churches. CCU works closely with the Anglican Communion Office on Faith, Order and Unity.

CCU serves the Church of England as a member of the World Council of Churches, the Conference of European Churches, Chuches Togerther in Britain and Ireland and Churches Together in England.

The Council forms part of the Central Secretariat of the Archbishops' Council of the Church of England and reports to the General Synod through the Archbishops' Council.
