House for Duty
These two parishes are located a few
miles apart on the north east coast of Yorkshire within the North
Yorkshire Moors National Park close to the town of Whitby.
Fylingdales is a
rural / seaside parish with a resident population of approx
1400. Hawsker with Stainsacre is a rural
parish with a growing population of approx 800.
The post would suit a priest of mainly
central to Catholic tradition with ecumenical sympathies, willing
to exercise a pastoral ministry in a distinctively rural
context. Hawsker has Resolutions A & B in force and the
post is therefore only open to male candidates. Meanwhile the
ethos of Fylingdales is sympathetic to the ordained ministry of
women, and the appointee will also be required to be fully
accepting and supportive.
Each parish has a VC Primary
The two churches were built in 1870's.
There are no church halls but church rooms are available in
Fylingdales parish and Hawsker church has moveable seating and can
be used as a hall when necessary.
Both parishes have well established
links with other local Christian denominations including a Churches
Together group of clergy and lay members at Fylingdales. Both
parishes also have ongoing responsibilities to local residential
homes for the elderly.
The Priest will live in the parsonage
house at Fylingdales which is a recently-built detached 4-bedroomed
property with an easily maintained garden, garage and ample

- An interest in the debate at the interface between theology,
Christian culture and public life.
- A negotiator, enabler, and encourager.
- An interest for working with children and young people.
- Someone to inspire and motivate the church family in the task
of loving and serving the community.
- Someone willing to minister in villages where there are many
people of retirement age.
- Someone energetic, flexible, kind and caring.
The appointee is eligible to remain in
post until the age of 70. Any tenure beyond that age will be
by terms in accord with Common Tenure.
