Closed Churches Available for Disposal
Southwick St Columba
This remarkable church with a unique ensemble of high Victorian
and Edwardian ecclesiastical art works is offered for sale. The
church was built in brick and slate in 1888 in Romanesque style,
towering over its surrounding housing area. The interior has large
painted panels on all walls, fine stained windows, and
remarkable sanctuary and baptistery furnishings. The accommodation
comprises nave and aisles extending into shallow chancel and
sanctuary. The property on offer includes the large parish hall
extending north from the church. A vicarage erected in 1980's is
also available by separate transaction.
Any successful proposals for the use of the building will be
based on a clear commitment to the retention and protection of its
artworks. This implies a likely single user, or possibly some
form of reversible subdivision of the nave, leaving the aisles and
east and west ends open. The Planning Authority has indicated a
willingness to accept the demolition of the parish room to provide
some car parking.
The property is offered without a specific use in mind.
Expressions of interest for all proposals are invited. Offers are
invited , and preliminary expressions of interest are welcome.
