Many churches have found that a themed Valentine's Day service
has proven popular - and so a special
service has been developed (opens in new window) for use either
on Valentine's Day itself or the nearest Sunday.
Some parishes have chosen to invite back couples who previously
married at the church for their Valentine's Day service.
Others offer an opportunity for couples to collectively renew
their wedding vows.
Sometimes churches decide to:
- Ring the bells before the service to mark the occasion
- Serve wedding cake and champagne after the service
- Book a photographer so couples can take away a souvenir
picture
- Have musicians play wedding favourites before and after the
service
When organising a Valentine's Day service, it makes good sense
to advertise the service on posters and pew sheets several weeks in
advance, and quite often newspapers and radio stations are
interested in giving the event some publicity.
