My name is Mary Hotchkiss

I am a Curate, serving the first year of my curacy in a multi parish Benefice –the King’s Way Benefice - in East Bristol. Before being ordained I was a stay at home mum and before that I worked in the Hospitality industry.

I would describe myself as a 3rd culture kid, having been born and grown up in several countries (Zambia, Botswana and RSA) in Southern Africa to Indian parents. I speak English. My husband and I also lived in Sweden for a short time, and in 2011 we move to Bristol from Jo’burg. We enjoy traveling and exploring new places when we get the opportunity to.

I grew up in the Anglican Church, but have also attended churches in Kerala, and Sweden. I don’t really fit in any one tradition as a result. I have worshipped in many settings i.e. evangelical, Anglo-Catholic and charismatic traditions.

I have a husband of 16 years and 3 kids, and a dog, called Milo.

My favourite way to spend my free time is in the company of friends and family. I also love to cook and bake (at eat!). I like to watch TV/movies – ranging from sci-fi, action, rom-coms, and thrillers as well as a good bake off/cooking competition.

I also enjoy reading crime and mystery fiction, as well as Jane Austen and Dickens.

I’m collaborative, pastoral, a good listener, able to be honest and ask the hard questions if necessary. I like to work around a basic framework but within that be free and creative on how to approach situations. It is my passion to see others grow and flourish in their gifting and hope that my own journey into ministry can be of help to someone else. I am available during school hours Monday-Thursday.
