A wide-ranging collection of essays and comment sheds fresh and often unexpected light on questions of authority and the whole search for Christian unity in today's world. Contributors to Unpacking the Gift look closely at the text of The Gift of Authority, the 1999 report of the Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission (ARCIC), and state personal views and interpretations to help readers explore the issues involved.
Contributors were chosen to represent a wide range of views among those in the Church of England known to be closely concerned with ecumenical theology. All are either present or past members of the Faith and Order Advisory Group. They include: Dr Martin Davie, Secretary of the Faith and Order Advisory Group (FOAG); the Rt Revd Christopher Hill, Bishop of Stafford and Vice Chairman of FOAG; the Very Revd Stephen Platten, Dean of Norwich; Dr Mary Tanner, former Moderator of the Faith and Order Group of the WCC; and the Revd Flora Winfield, formerly Local Unity Secretary of the Council for Christian Unity. Unpacking the Gift is edited by Peter Fisher, until recently Principal of the Queen's Foundation for Ecumenical Theological Education.
Unpacking the Gift 'is offered to encourage wholehearted, intelligent and prayerful engagement with the pursuit of unity among Christians'.
