Honorary National Moderator for Reader Training Appointed

The Revd Alec George is to be Honorary National Moderator for Reader Training in the Ministry Division of the Archbishops' Council from 1st January 2004. He will continue to be non-stipendiary assistant priest in the parish of Hundon and associate minister in the Stour Valley Group.

The Venerable Gordon Kuhrt, Director of Ministry for the Archbishops' Council, said 'Alec has a long track record of work in Reader training and is currently Diocesan Moderator for Reader Training in St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, and Assistant Liturgical Officer in the diocese.'

Alec starts his new role at the beginning of January 2004. The selection and training of readers in the Church of England is a diocesan responsibility, within a national framework: the National Moderator seeks consistency and good practice across the dioceses in their selection and training processes.

Note

Readers in the Church of England are lay people called by God, trained, and licensed by their Bishop. They lead worship, preach and teach about the Christian faith, and encourage effective pastoral care and ministry. There are over 10,000 Readers - men and women - within the Church.
