General Synod - Summary of Business Conducted on Tuesday 9th February 2010 AM

 

LEGISLATIVE BUSINESS

Amending Canon No 29 ( GS 1639B) - Draft Amending Canon for Final Drafting and Final Approval; Approval of Petition for the Royal Assent and Licence

The Synod voted to take note of the report.

Following some amendment and a division by Houses, Synod voted to finally approve the Amending Canon:

Bishops          25                     0

Clergy             97                     2

Laity               109                    2

There was one abstention.

The Synod adopted the petition for Her Majesty's Royal Assent and Licence.

 

Ecclesiastical Fees (Amendment) Measure ( GS 1715B) - Draft Measure for Final Drafting and Final Approval

The Synod voted to take note of the report.

Following some amendment and a division by Houses, Synod voted to finally approve the Measure:

Clergy             98                     10

Laity               116                    9

There were 16 abstentions.

 

Mission and Pastoral Measure ( GS 1740A) - Draft Measure for Revision

The Synod voted to take note of the report.

Following debate, the Synod voted that Clauses 1-112, Schedules 1-9, and the Long Title all stand part of the Measure.

 

Care of Cathedrals Measure ( GS 1727A) - Draft Measure for Revision

The Synod voted to take note of the report.

Following debate, the Synod voted that Clauses 1-34 (with some amendments), Schedules 1-3, and the Long Title all stand part of the Measure.

 

Codes of Practice under Section 8 of the Ecclesiastical Offices (Terms of Service) Measure 2009 ( GS 1774 and GS 1775) - Codes of Practice for Approval

Following debate on a number of amendments, all of which were lost or lapsed, the Synod approved the Codes of Practice relating to Regulations 31 and 32 of the Measure above.

 

Crown Nominations Commission: Statement on role of interviews

The Archbishop of York gave a statement to the Synod on the role of interviews in the discernment of candidates for Diocesan Sees.
