15 April 2010
2010 marks the 60th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, the founding document of the European Coal and Steel Community which over time developed to become the European Union of today.
To mark the occasion and to stimulate wider debate about Europe's future in a turbulent and troubled world, the House of Bishops' Europe Panel commissioned a pamphlet to examine afresh this declaration and the Christian values that shaped and influenced Robert Schuman's vision for Europe. The aim is to deepen further the appreciation of the importance of developing a values-based approach to renewing and re-invigorating Europe's vision and mission.
