Bishop for Urban Life and Faith

In May 2010 the Archbishops of Canterbury and York
announced the appointment of the Rt Revd Christopher Chessun as
Bishop for Urban Life and Faith. Bishop Christopher fulfils
this role alongside his ministry as Bishop of Southwark, drawing on
his experience as an urban practitioner. He succeeds the Rt Revd
Stephen Lowe who in 2009.
He works closely with the Mission and Public Affairs Division
of the Archbishops' Council, and with the Urban Bishops'
Panel. The appointment is for three years.
The Bishop for Urban Life and Faith takes a lead in raising
urban issues for his fellow bishops and the church at large. Key
repsosibilities include the support of urban
clergy, bringing them together to enhance their ministry,
demonstrating their valuing by the wider church.
