A Christian presence in every community

A Good Childhood

Good ChildhoodThe Church of England has been working with The Children's Society to find out what makes a good childhood and how we as adults must change in order to create the type of society where all children can flourish.

In July 2009 the General Synod considered a response prepared by the Archbishops' Council's Mission and Public Affairs Division to    'A Good Childhood', a report commissioned by The Children's Society and published in February 2009. The report highlighted areas where Christian churches and agencies could offer distinctive responses to the report's findings. In addition to taking note of the report, Synod carried a motion renewing its commitment to enriching childhood by helping young people to discover the Christian faith. The Children's Society is now delivering a pilot series of 'Good Childhood conversations' with parishes, schools and children's centres to see how their communities can make a difference.

Understanding Children's Well-being, published by the Children's Society in January 2010, is an exploration of well-being from a child's perspective. This study is part of the Children's Society's ongoing research programme which seeks to make a significant contribution to understanding what affects young people's well-being, and will also monitor changes in well-being over time.
