Benefact Trust (benefacttrust.co.uk), one of the UK’s largest grant-making charities, has launched its latest podcast with the Church of England, discussing the climate crisis and how churches can take action this World Environment Day (5 June 2024).
In the Church of England’s 2021 Carbon Emissions Report, it was revealed that church buildings emit around 411,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases. In Benefact Trust’s latest podcast, Julian talks about the stark reality of the climate crisis and says: “The evidence is out there, and a lot of analysis is irrefutable now that we as humans are having an impact on the climate and that’s why I’m so keen to be doing everything I can through the Church of England to play our small part in reducing our carbon footprint.”
The podcast follows Benefact Trust’s £1.5m commitment to the Church of England’s Demonstrator Churches project, part of the Church’s wider Net Zero by 2030 ambition. This project will equip and empower churches all over the UK to be examples of good net zero practices and, in turn, inspire churches of all denominations to act and reduce their carbon footprint.
The ‘Beyond Funding’ podcast sets to offer tips and advice to churches, Christian charities and those looking for funding, as well as opening-up conversations about major social issues with beneficiaries and experts.
Julian shares his insight and vast experience in the environmental space, whilst offering creative solutions for churches moving towards net zero. He emphasises our collective power and says: “Every step makes a difference. If we all do one thing, then those things add up. What we’re doing is only a drop in the ocean, but the ocean is made up of many drops. If we can approach it in that way, then who knows how far we can get. The thing is to have the ambition.”
