Providing a refuge against flooding

St Cuthbert's church (Diocese of Sheffield) acted as a community hub when an extreme flood hit Fishlake in 2019. As it sits in an elevated position, it was able to provide shelter, a space to eat and drink, and a centre for co-ordinating donations. Although there was no flood response plan in place, locals and authorities worked together to make use of the church, and the experience of this flood has resulted in deeper consideration of the need for future preparedness.
