The Trenemans' Story

Finding God in everyday life

Like many people, Gary and Amahle Treneman spend a fair amount of time on the bus, tram or train. Picking up their granddaughter from school, heading to the shops or church. Travel time all adds up to a good chunk of daily life. What can we make of this time, or rather, what might God make of this?

The Trenemans are living examples of the journey being the destination. As they travel on the buses, they have opened this part of everyday life up as an adventure to take with God. This adventure is not found in travelling to different places, but in travelling differently to the places that they go. They have learnt to be open to God nudging them to speak or respond to the people they meet.

One of the limitations we have to finding God in everyday life is that we can be forgetful that God is often active in the everyday lives of other people. It helps to be a little bit more curious about what God might be up to. Even if we can’t see ourselves being as adventurous as the Trenemans, we can nudge ourselves to be nudged by God a little more.

Seeing God at work in our lives is often a hard thing to become aware of. Challenge yourself to look out for how God is working in your life; and share your everyday faith stories using #EverydayFaith on social media.

So, if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us.

2 Corinthians 5:17-20 (abridged)
