Legal intervention

The Archbishops’ Council has intervened in an Employment Appeal Tribunal case involving workplace issues.

The intervention, which is strictly neutral, invites the court to clarify the law, both from a European and domestic perspective, on discrimination, freedom of religion or belief and freedom of speech.

It proposes a proportionality assessment that could be applied both to the issues in these proceedings and other similar situations involving manifestations of religion or belief, as a way of addressing increasingly polarised arguments.
