Pilgrim Places, Holy Lives

This summer, the Church of England offers a new reflection campaign centred around pilgrimage – places and stories that help us feel part of something bigger on our journey towards God.

Each of us has our own story, but we are also part of bigger stories. The greatest story ever told is that of God becoming human in Jesus to offer us a transforming relationship with him. Through these reflections, we will see how this amazing story took root in Anglo-Saxon England, and how those who responded to it became signposts to God. They not only changed the world around them but can still challenge, inspire, and encourage us today.

Resources for churches

Downloadable and customisable resources for churches, to help explore pilgrimage as part of their ongoing mission and ministry in the coming weeks. These include logos, icons, social media templates, poster templates, and PowerPoint templates available now from the Resource Hub on AChurchNearYou.com (login required).

Logo packs for print and digital are available to download now. Our branding guidelines are designed to assist churches and organisations in making the most of the beautiful Pilgrim Places, Holy Lives branding.

These aim to complement existing resources, including the new ‘Pilgrim Places’ resources released as part of the Faith in the North initiative.

Working with Faith in the North, the Diocese of York has produced a toolkit and small group resource to help your church engage with pilgrimage and the opportunities for prayer and reflection that it offers.

Resources for Schools

Faith in the North are producing a range of resources to help schools explore Christian pilgrimage. Find out more here.

Become a Pilgrim Place

Any church, in any context, can become a ‘Pilgrim Place’ – a welcoming, peaceful, safe space which offers time to relax and reflect. Is your church on an existing pilgrimage route or walking trail, or do you want to find fresh ways to welcome visitors and local people? Faith in the North has developed a set of resources to help people engage with church buildings and other pilgrimage sites, including signage, prayer cards, trails and activities for children. Becoming a Pilgrim Place allows you access to the full pack of resources, highlights your church on a map of Pilgrim Places encouraging visitors to come and connects you into a wider network of churches. Find out more on the Pilgrim Place website.

If your church has chosen to become a Pilgrim Place, you can display this information on your AChurchNearYou.com site by adding the Pilgrim Place facilities tag. Facilities tags tell visitors to the site more about the features and facilities of your church building or community, allowing them to search for a church which has a specific feature. Here's how to tag your church's facilities and features.

Get involved on social media

This summer, we’re spotlighting pilgrimage across our social media channels.

Are you doing a pilgrimage? Share it with us. Tag The Church of England, and use the hashtag #PilgrimPlaces, to get involved!

Whether it's something about your church or local area that has made it a pilgrimage site in the past, an interesting place you've visited on holiday, or a pilgrimage you or your church is undertaking, we're inviting churches, cathedrals, groups, and individuals to share social media content about pilgrimage on your own channels.

We'd love to see your photos and videos, use the hashtag #PilgrimPlaces.
