Curate, Diocese of Bristol

I am a curate in the Fromeside Benefice in the diocese of Bristol, I was Ordained Deacon in June 2019 and am due to be Priested when this is possible.  I have pastoral and ministerial responsibility for St. James the Less in Iron Acton. I am also working on a new housing estate with the Yate community minister. I do not come from a stereotypical ‘vicar’ stock. I am proud to have worked as a bus driver and to own a fairly distinctively Bristolian accent. I entered the discernment process myself with vast experience of Lay roles in the Church but with little in the way of academic evidence of capability.

I feel I could contribute to all journeys. However, I feel a particular call to help with the diversity of the ‘Church of England’. I feel I could be of most benefit to anyone who also feels they are not in line with the stereotype. Those who do not have an academic background, those who are not from clergy or even completely Christian families or those who identify as working class.

I am married to Elaine, an agnostic, who has two part time jobs, one for a local church as administrator and one in the diocese office. We have two older children in their twenties, two teenage children and we are guardians to an 8 year old and a SEN 10 year old.

I am passionately ‘Anglican’ at the Catholic end of the spectrum. Sacraments are fundamental to my faith and personal spirituality, as is liturgy.

I feel I am able to give up-to 10 hours each month to mentoring.

I enjoy Golf, cycling and snooker. However, I am not any good at any. I am a Bristol Rovers season ticket holder.
