York Ministry Experience Scheme

The Diocese of York is pleased to be setting up a brand new Ministry Experience Scheme in a unique context. MES participants will be based at Wydale Hall (wydale.org), the diocesan retreat and conference centre, which describes itself as A prayerful community renewing the church’s mission, and is situated near the coast on the edge of the North York Moors. Wydale has a small resident community who sustain a pattern of prayer and hospitality, and offer conference space and a centre for retreats. As a base for a year-long MES, participants will be able to join in the work of the hospitality team, engage with events held at the Hall, experience rural ministry in the local group of parishes, and also in the context of the more urban communities on the coast where life can be tough. Because of its rural setting, the Diocese of York is offering something unique for an MES context.

During this year, not only will there be the opportunity to experience ministry in a variety of contexts, to engage in your own vocational discernment, and to deepen your own discipleship in study within the diocese’s provision, you will also share the life of this small community as part of the Wydale family.

Because of its rural setting, possession of a driving licence would be very helpful, as would having your own car if you are wanting to make full use of the local area. It is a mile walk to the main road for a bus, and 1½ to the nearest village.
