The Church Commissioners for England announced today the appointment of Dan Neale as Responsible Investment Social Themes Lead. He will report to Bess Joffe, head of Responsible Investment.
Dan Neale Church Commissioners RI Team

Dan joins the Church Commissioners’ award-winning Responsible Investment team which in 2021 won the IPE impactful investor award and published a new responsible investment policy.

The Church Commissioners’ responsible investment themes are Respect for People and Respect for the Planet. The new role of Social Themes Lead was created to support the delivery of these themes across all investments in the Commissioners’ £9.2bn endowment fund. In his role, Dan will lead the expansion of investment programmes on social issues including human rights, Big Tech and artificial intelligence.

Commenting on the appointment, Bess Joffe, head of Responsible Investment for the Church Commissioners, said:
“Investing with an eye on social themes is increasingly important to ensure our endowment portfolio is in line with our Respect for People values. These issues include human rights and the proliferation of technology and artificial intelligence in all aspects of every day life. Dan's experience, leading social and human rights rankings and impact at the World Benchmarking Alliance, following time as a social performance consultant and an officer in the Royal Navy, is a great foundation for him to help build out this important area of our work.”
