Next Steps Group statement on the revised Call on Human Dignity

26/07/2022

The Living in Love and Faith Next Steps Group is grateful for the revision to the Lambeth Call on Human Dignity. Genuine dialogue that enhances human dignity can only begin when we are open and honest about our disagreements and differences, and the pain that these can cause. The revised Call’s acknowledgement of the different perspectives that exist in the churches of the Anglican Communion about sexuality and marriage is welcomed.

The Church of England’s ongoing Living in Love and Faith process is a testimony to the possibility of deepening relationships when people with different convictions and lived experiences engage together in an ethos of mutual love and respect as followers of Christ.

The LLF process is a gift that the Church of England offers to the Anglican Communion in the hope that the Lambeth Conference and the church communities it represents will become safer spaces in which matters of deep personal conviction and experience can be sensitively shared and better understood, and in which God’s voice can be heard.

Our prayer is that Lambeth Conference delegates will be drawn deeper together in love and faith through humble, open listening to one another and the Spirit of Christ in their midst.
