The next Bishop of Bolton will be the Rev Dr Matthew Porter, currently Vicar of St Michael le Belfrey in York, 10 Downing Street has announced.
Passionate about evangelism and discipleship, he is an author who recently completed doctoral studies in church planting and an Honorary Chaplain to the King.
He will succeed Bishop Mark Ashcroft, who retired last month, after he is consecrated as bishop later this year.
