New Clerk to the Synod

Dr Colin Podmore has been appointed as Clerk to the Synod in succession to the Revd David Williams, who will be retiring at the end of March. The General Synod will be invited to confirm the appointment at its meeting from 7 to 9 February.

Education adviser Nicola Sylvester has been appointed the new Head of School Effectiveness, joining the staff of the Church of England’s Board of Education.
‘Exploring God’s Mercy’ – the Church’s most digital Lent course

Household music and DVD collections could be a good starting point for studying the Bible this Lent teaches a new five-week course called Exploring God’s Mercy, compiled by the Bishop of Sheffield, Dr Steven Croft. Suitable for church groups, couples or individuals, the course prepares us for the festival of Easter by reminding us just how much God loves us, using Scriptures, specially filmed You Tube videos, podcasts for iPods, group discussions and prayer. It recommends playing popular songs or DVD clips at the start of each session, to set the scene for that week’s theme.
New Secretary for Inter Religious Affairs

The Revd Dr Toby Howarth has been appointed to serve as Secretary for Inter Religious Affairs for the Church of England. This is a joint appointment by the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Mission and Public Affairs Council.
