Draft Amending Canon and Instruments for Final Drafting and Final Approval

Report by the Steering Committee (GS 1902-5Z)

The Chair of the Steering Committee (the Revd Canon Simon Butler) (Southwark) moved:

'That the Synod do take note of this Report.'

The motion was carried, and following on from that item the special amendment to draft Amending Canon No. 32 (GS 1902B) was moved and approved.


After paragraph 1(1) insert -

"(1A) In Proviso (a) to paragraph 2 in the form which it takes in relation to the Province of Canterbury, for "136" substitute "133".

(1B) In Proviso (a) to paragraph 2 in the form which it takes in relation to the Province of York, for "59" substitute "58"."

DRAFT AMENDING CANON NO. 32 (GS 1902B)

The Chair of the Steering Committee (the Revd Canon Simon Butler) (Southwark) moved:

'That the Canon entitled "Amending Canon No. 32" be finally approved.'

The motion was approved by the following vote:

House of Bishops: 17 for, 0 against, 0 abstentions
House of Clergy: 121 for, 0 against, 1 abstention
House of Laity: 140 for, 0 against, 0 abstentions

 

Following final approval,

The Chair of the Steering Committee (the Revd Canon Simon Butler) (Southwark) moved:

'That the petition for Her Majesty's Royal Assent and Licence (GS 1902C) be adopted.'

which was approved.

 

CONVOCATIONS (ELECTIONS TO UPPER HOUSE) (AMENDMENT) RESOLUTION 2014 (GS 1903B)

The Chair of the Steering Committee (the Revd Canon Simon Butler) (Southwark) moved:

'That the Convocations (Elections to Upper House) (Amendment) Resolution 2014 be finally approved.'

which was approved.

 

CLERGY REPRESENTATION RULES (AMENDMENT) RESOLUTION 2014 (GS 1904B)

The Chair of the Steering Committee (the Revd Canon Simon Butler) (Southwark) moved:

'That the Clergy Representation Rules (Amendment) Resolution 2014 be finally approved.'

which the Synod passed.

 

CHURCH REPRESENTATION RULES (AMENDMENT) [(NO. 2)] RESOLUTION 2014 (GS 1905B)

The Chair of the Steering Committee (the Revd Canon Simon Butler) (Southwark) moved:

'That the Church Representation Rules (Amendment) [(No. 2)] Resolution 2014 be finally approved.'

The motion was approved by the following vote:

House of Bishops: 18 for, 0 against, 0 abstentions
House of Clergy: 124 for, 0 against, 0 abstentions
House of Laity: 141 for, 0 against, 0 abstentions

Draft Measure for Revision

Report by the Revision Committee (GS 1921Y)

The Chair of the Revision Committee (Mr Robert Key) (Salisbury) to move:

'That the Synod do take note of this Report.'

Clause 1

Mr Clive Scowen (London) moved a series of amendments. The first, item 552 was lost after a vote taken by the Synod.

The voting numbers is as follows:

House of Bishops: 2 for, 17 against, 0 abstentions
House of Clergy: 24 for, 89 against, 5 abstentions
House of Laity: 40 for, 85 against, 3 abstentions

The second amendment, item 553, lapsed.

 

Mr Clive Scowen (London) then moved as an amendment:

After clause 1(3) insert -

"(3A) In subsection (5) omit all words after "required by law"."

which was approved by Synod.

 

A member of the Steering Committee to move:

'That clause 1 [as amended] stand part of the Measure.'

 

Clauses 2-3

A member of the Steering Committee to move en bloc (with the permission of the Chair):

'That clauses 2 and 3 stand part of the Measure.'

 

Long Title

DRAFT AMENDING CANON NO. 35 (GS 1964)

Draft Amending Canon for First Consideration

Article 7 business

A member of the Steering Committee to move:

'That the Canon entitled "Amending Canon No. 35" be considered for revision in committee.'

which was approved by the Synod.

 


CHURCH REPRESENTATION RULES (AMENDMENT) [(NO. 1)] RESOLUTION 2014 (GS 1940A)

Resolution made under section 7 of the Synodical Government Measure 1969

Resumed debate on item 505B in the Agenda of the February 2014 group of sessions:

'That the Church Representation Rules (Amendment) [(No. 1)] Resolution 2014 be approved.'
(moved at the February 2014 group of sessions by the Revd Canon Robert Cotton (Guildford).

The resolution was voted on and lost.
