Church Commissioners announce appointments to Board of Governors

The Church Commissioners for England have announced the appointment of three members to their Board of Governors. The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have jointly appointed Busola Sodeinde and re-appointed existing Commissioner Alan Smith, while the Crown has appointed Nigel Timmins. These appointments take effect during early 2021. There are 27 members of the Board of Governors, the Church Commissioners’ main policy-making body, with terms varying from three to five years.

Busola is the Founder and CEO of Bearings Point Media and was previously CFO for Global Markets EMEA at State Street. She will replace Jeremy Clack, who has stepped down after completing his term with the Church Commissioners at the end of 2020. Alan was first appointed to the Church Commissioners in 2018 and serves on the Audit and Risk Committees. He is currently Global Head of Risk Strategy and Senior Advisor on Climate and ESG Risk at HSBC. Nigel, who is Humanitarian Director at Oxfam, will replace Lord Richard Best, who has decided to leave the Church Commissioners’ Board in early April at the end of his current term of office.                  

Busola, Alan and Nigel bring a broad range of professional skills combined with deep commitment to the Church’s mission, as well as diversifying the Commissioners’ make-up and thinking. The Commissioners’ Chief Executive Gareth Mostyn said, “It is humbling that such experienced and inspiring people offer their time, skill and energy to the service of the Church.
