A Church of England Bishop has shared her prayers for election candidates and voters as three weeks of prayers and reflections begin across the Church of England in the lead-up to the General Election.

In a video shared today, The Bishop of Chelmsford, Guli Francis-Dehqani says: “I’m praying for all those standing for office, and involved in the campaigns. For moderation in language, for good disagreement and for kindness and gentleness.”

“I’m also praying for the electorate, that we wouldn’t take for granted our democracy, but use our vote to make our views known.”

You can listen to her full reflection via X.

Written by a group of Church of England bishops, #PrayYourPart is a Church of England campaign promoting prayer and participation for the UK General Election.

The 21 daily reflections begin on June 14 and cover everything from prayers for party leaders, candidates and the media, through to themes such as integrity and truthfulness and key subjects including education, technology, prisons, housing, migration and the environment.

The theme for the first day is ‘Your Kingdom Come’ and encourages users to read 1 Timothy 2, 1-4. It concludes with the prayer:

Guide the leaders of the nations
that they may work for the common good,
and strengthen our hearts
with a vision of your kingdom.
Hear us, good Lord.

#PrayYourPart is available as a printed booklet from Church House Publishing, in audio form via smart speaker, or via daily emails. Those participating are also encouraged to share their own prayers on social media using the #PrayYourPart hashtag.
