Talking Jesus

Did you know that 43% of the adult population and 37% of those aged 11 – 18 believe that Jesus rose from the dead? These statistics can give us confidence that many of the people that we talk to about our faith aren’t starting from a blank slate.

67% of non-Christians know a practising Christian, someone like you or me, and they know us well, they’re our family and friends. They said our top three qualities are that we are friendly, caring and good-humoured. What a great start, we already know so many people who aren’t Christians and they like us.

There are so many more things in the Talking Jesus research that have helped individual Christians and local churches become more confident talking about their faith with others.

If you would like to find out more order this simple booklet for yourself and all those in your church. Go to www.talkingJesus.org to find all the details.

HOPE2018

This coming year, 2018, we’re working together across all denominations as part of HOPE2018 - sharing the love and message of Jesus Christ in what we do and say. There are so many opportunities for you and your church to get involved and practical resources to help. You don’t have to wait till 2018 as there are great resources now to help with Christmas 2017.

The Christmas magazine shares testimonies and stories to help the reader think about the real meaning of Christmas. We’re encouraging churches to give this out door-to-door along with invites to their local carol services.

HOPE has teamed up with Bible Society to produce a carol sheet so that all those who come to your carol services have something in their hand to take away that will help them think more about the meaning of Christmas.

We’ll feature more resources as we go into the new year - there will be a new Talking Jesus course to help us become more confident talking about our faith, key resources for the commemoration of the end of the First World War and ideas to make the most of Summer and Harvest.

Talking Jesus Youth

In May 2017, the Talking Jesus Youth research was launched looking at perceptions of Christians, Jesus and evangelism amongst 11-18 year olds.

Overwhelmingly the research showed that non-Christian young people view the Christians they know as friendly, caring and generous.

One in six non-Christian young people (16%) want to know more about Jesus following a conversation about him. And one in six (16%) are also open to experiencing or encountering Jesus for themselves. A huge 56% of non-Christian young people said that they felt comfortable having a conversation about faith.

The research also found that amongst Christian young people, 43% of 11-18 year olds felt that other Christians would be better than them at talking to non-Christians about Jesus.

Finally, when looking at how young people came to faith, the research showed that 92% of young people say that they came to faith before the age of 11 with ‘growing up in a Christian family’ cited as the most influential factor.
