We are the Church of England's Evangelism & Discipleship Team. Our overarching aim is to motivate our million regular worshippers to become confident, prayerful disciples. Dave Male | Director of Evangelism & Discipleship

Dave leads the Evangelism & Discipleship Team, ensuring that we meet our priorities as a team. He is involved in developing a pilot project around sport and evangelism and has the responsibility for developing leadership training in evangelism and discipleship.  

Sandra Millar | Head of Life Events

The Revd Canon Dr Sandra Millar became Head of Life Events for the national Church of England in February 2013. Since 2019 she also leads the ‘Stranger to Friend’ work on welcome and faith journeys. Sandra lives in Gloucester and, alongside her national role, continues to support local ministry across the diocese. She has recently written “Life Events: mission and ministry at baptisms, weddings and funerals.” and has written and contributed to many more books, predominantly on the theme of families and worship. She likes watching TV and reads a lot of books.

Stephen Hance | National Lead for Evangelism and Witness

The Revd. Dr. Stephen Hance is the National Lead for Evangelism and Witness for the Church of England, with responsibility for the Church’s goals around evangelism - to motivate the million Anglican church goers to share their faith, to identify and equip a thousand new evangelists, and to design training that enables clergy to lead evangelistic churches. His whole ministry has been shaped by a passion for evangelism, discipleship, and church growth, and he is thrilled to be able to focus on these passions in this role. He has previously served as a vicar, a diocesan missioner, and a cathedral dean. When not travelling around the country to talk about evangelism, you will probably find him listening to music or at the theatre.

Nick Shepherd | Programme Director for Setting God's People Free

Dr Nick Shepherd co-ordinates the Setting God’s People Free (SGPF) initiative for the Church of England. SGPF is a programme of change to enable the whole people of God to live out the Good News of Jesus confidently in all of life, Sunday to Saturday. This work is primarily focussed on supporting dioceses to develop and implement strategies to support faith in everyday life across churches of all traditions in diverse contexts. Nick’s work also include speaking and writing on leading change, faith formation and theological education. Nick is based in London, but will travel anywhere with good coffee…

Jimmy Dale | National Youth Evangelism Officer

Jimmy is the National Youth Evangelism Officer for the Church of England, responsible for promoting and resourcing youth evangelism across the Church of England. Jimmy started with the role in 2016, prior to which he spent 5 years working for Youth For Christ and 5 years working as a parish youth worker in East London.

Heather Cracknell | Head of Development for Fresh Expressions

Revd Heather Cracknell is Head of Development for Fresh Expressions, co-ordinating the implementation of the FX Greenhouse project across ten dioceses in the next five years. She is also the focal point for Fresh Expressions in the Church of England, looking at the ways the learning from the twenty years of the ecumenical FX movement can further develop the missional culture across our parishes, deaneries and dioceses. She is based in Norwich, working at Church House a few days a week, and getting very familiar with the rail franchises of England.

Owen Morgan | Project Manager

Owen Morgan is Project Manager for some of our E&D projects including a resource to help clergy and lay leaders lead in Evangelism, a discipleship portal to help people connect with God and each other by connecting with great resources and a project to raise a new generation of evangelists. Prior to working for the Church of England, Owen spent more than a decade working in a local church context finding innovative ways to introduce people to Jesus. He is based in London with his family and loves to talk and teach theology in his spare time.

Cathy Myers | Life Events Resources Manager

Cathy joined the Evangelism & Discipleship Team on the last day of July 2018 and has been on a steep learning curve ever since! Cathy is responsible for all the financial transactions across the team and works with Sandra Millar to support ministry around Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals. She loves her job and is finding that the similarities between public libraries, where she spent 20 years of her career, and the Church of England are surprisingly great.

James Shelton | Project Manager - FX Greenhouse

James manages the Fresh Expressions ‘Greenhouse’ project. He joined the team at Church House in October 2019, after spending a year as a resident member of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s St Anselm Community. Prior to his time living, praying and serving at Lambeth Palace, he worked for 10+ years in journalism, communications and marketing roles - most recently enjoying 4 years promoting the wonderful array of activities happening at Norwich Cathedral, whilst also moonlighting as matchday announcer at Norwich City FC! It probably goes without saying that he is a huge footy fan. Other hobbies include baking (mostly soda bread and sweet treats involving cinnamon!) and keeping fit through running, hiking and yoga.

Natalie Andrews | National Sport and Wellbeing Project Lead

Reverend Natalie Andrews is the National Sport and Wellbeing Project Lead. This project seeks to effect cultural change to enable a strategic and sustainable approach for the ministry of Sport and Wellbeing within the life and witness of the Church of England. Natalie will be working alongside Dave Male, Bishop Libby Lane, an Advisory Board, pilot dioceses, Ridley Hall Cambridge, para-sports ministry organisations and other key stakeholders. After an initial 3 year pilot, we aspire to see sport and wellbeing become one of the core evangelistic & discipleship strategies for the Church of England to be a church for 'All people in every place'. Natalie lives in Ely with her husband and family and prior to this role she was Vicar in the Ely Team of Churches and is specifically interested in missional communities, new forms of Monasticism and a holistic view of body and wellbeing. Natalie is a keen runner and enjoys opportunities to share her faith in everyday life.

Agi Donovan | Team Administrator

Agi joined the Evangelism & Discipleship team in May 2018 as the team’s part-time administrator. She is responsible for ensuring the smooth day to day running of the team by setting up calls and meetings and booking travel. Agi handles enquiries that come into the team and makes sure that they are passed to the right person.
