The Church House media and communications training programme exists to support members of the church in sharing the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in an ever-changing communications environment. It is designed to offer high quality affordable courses for individuals and organisations associated with the Church.
We also welcome enquiries about designing courses to meet specific needs and offer a wide range of bespoke training for churches, charities and other third sector organisations.
Master the skill of writing, editing and designing your church magazine. By the end of this workshop, you’ll be able to breathe new life into your magazine or newsletter; you’ll get an insight into the principles of good design and top tips and resources that will make your designs fly. In the second half of the day you'll learn the art of finding compelling stories, writing great copy and editing. A day not to be missed!
Master the skill of building rapport with, understanding and inspiring an audience – of 1 or 1000. On this full day course, you will learn about: understanding and engaging your audience; making an impact within seven seconds; conquering your nerves; the power of voice and projection – and many other tips and tricks.
This day is useful for people who have no knowledge of working with the media either at parish or diocese level. You’ll learn how national & local broadcast and print media work and how you get your stories on air/in print. We’ll also look at creating a press release, dealing with what happens when a big story breaks and we'll talk about interview technique: what to say….. and what not!
Designed for people who may have to give interviews to the print and broadcast media. You’ll learn what the journalist wants, how to get your message across, thinking of soundbites and how to get the best of your time on air/in print. The day will also include practical sessions on interview technique with experienced BBC/national press journalists using our broadcast centre.
Delivering presentations can be stressful, particularly if you’re not used to doing them. If your role requires you to present to colleagues and the wider world, this course will help you get your message across in a clear and concise way. Topics covered include: Planning and polishing the presentation Conquering nerves and making an impact within the first seven seconds Confidence and competence: developing personal credibility Presentation technique: power, pitch, pace and pause Visual support for presentations: designing slides like a pro and how to use visual aids and background logos effectively Plus 1-1 feedback on technique, with tips for improvement
