General Synod members to meet remotely

10/07/2020

Members of the Church of England's General Synod are to meet remotely for the first time.
The stage at General Synod in York.

The annual residential meeting of Synod, originally due to take place in York this weekend, was cancelled earlier this year in response to the restrictions on public gatherings because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Instead, members will meet informally for a one-day meeting on Saturday to discuss a range of issues.

There will be a joint presidential address by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, and the new Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell.

Archbishop Stephen was confirmed as the 98th Archbishop of York in a service broadcast entirely via video conference on Thursday.

Synod members will join a detailed question and answer session and there will be a separate discussion on the impact and legacy of Covid-19.
