Loretta will be leaving to take up a new post as Master of Clare College, Cambridge in October 2021. An announcement as to Loretta’s successor will follow in due course.

Commenting on the news, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, said:

“Loretta is an outstanding First Church Estates Commissioner and we are incredibly grateful to her for her hard work and dedication. In the three years since she joined the Commissioners  she  has worked  to increase the Commissioners’  funding available for mission, strengthened measures to steward the fund in perpetuity and responded to the  pandemic with a liquidity package for struggling dioceses and cathedrals. During her tenure she has overseen the development of a more sustainable infrastructure for our investment activities and commenced implementation of a new phase of climate engagement and divestment.  The Commissioners will continue to benefit from her leadership and expertise until the summer of next year.”

Loretta Minghella, First Church Estates Commissioner added:

“It’s been an honour to have been First Commissioner for these last three years and to have worked with so many talented and committed colleagues. I look forward to a very busy period ahead, before returning to Clare in October 2021. The Church Commissioners continue to support the mission and ministry of the Church of England, particularly through funding and investor engagement. I am proud of what the Church Commissioners have achieved since 2017, allocating over £900m of funding for the Church’s mission in this triennium whilst engaging robustly with the companies we invest in on climate change, gender equality and other key issues and so ensuring that our investment activities contribute most effectively to the common good.
