Church of England response to Windrush Day

18/06/2018

Dr Elizabeth Henry, the Church of England’s race and ethnicity adviser, said: “The announcement of an annual Windrush Day is a cause for much joy; remembering the Windrush generation and their descendants in this way is a fitting acknowledgement of both the sacrifices made and the generous contributions given by so many who first answered the plea from the motherland to help rebuild post-war Britain.

"An annual Windrush Day that would honour the Windrush generation and affirm the benefits that migrants bring to the UK has long been the aim of campaigners.

"We hope that this day will not only mark this significant time in British history but that Windrush Day will become synonymous with values of acceptance, respect and recognition for the positive contributions of successive generations who have made Britain their home."
