More than 1,000 churches have already made use of the online church-finding tool - A Church Near You - to register their remembrance services ahead of Armistice Day.
The Church of England has produced an online film, ‘We will remember them’, inviting people to remember all those who fought, served, and died in the Great War by joining an Armistice Day service at their local church.
Meanwhile the Church of England's Facebook page will live stream the annual remembrance service from Ely Cathedral from 10.45am on Sunday.
Churches and cathedrals are hosting events and visual exhibitions, including poppy displays, to mark Remembrance Sunday.
Below is a selection of services, activities, and displays from some Church of England dioceses:
Diocese of Bath and Wells
On Armistice Day, South Quantock Benefice are hosting a remembrance tree planting at the new centenary wood at Cheddon Fitzpaine, and ‘Lights for Peace’ where every house in the parish is invited to put an LED light in the front window of their home, this is a key part of the commemorations in Winscombe and Sandford. Diocese of Birmingham
The area surrounding Birmingham Cathedral (St Philips) on Colmore Row will fall silent at 11am on Sunday as part of a day of remembrance. Birmingham will remember the fallen with an Armed Forces parade including ex-service personnel and regular, reserve and cadet units. From 10.55am a service will begin on Colmore Row with the Lord Mayor of Birmingham Yvonne Mosquito and Chaplain Reverend Monsignor Canon Robert Corrigan. A two-minute silence will be observed at 11am, after which wreaths will be laid at the Cenotaph by representatives from the Armed Forces, veterans and dignitaries. The service will finish with a march past at 11.40am.
Diocese of Blackburn
The Parish of St Michael and All Angels, Ashton-on-Ribble with St Mark, Preston, will host a special service on Friday 9th to honour over two hundred Ashton men killed in the war. Parishioners have identified where the fallen men lived and have visited the current residents and asked them to display a special sticker in their windows. Diocese of Chester
Church members from the Macclesfield Team ministry have knitted over 500 poppies which have been arranged to form the number 100. Purple poppies are also included to remember the animals that died in the war. People can see the display outside the church on Lyme Avenue. Diocese of Chichester
On Sunday, the Bishop of Lewes, the Rt Revd Richard Jackson, will be taking part in a Remembrance ride (on his Harley) from Tesco, Lewes at 9.15am to Newhaven Fort for the Legion Bikers service at 11am followed by a Remembrance Sunday Service parade in Lewes at 2pm. Diocese of Coventry
Coventry cathedral will have a Commemoration service on Remembrance Sunday from 10.45am. The Bishop of Coventry, the Rt Revd Christopher Cocksworth will wear a ‘Remembrance Cope’, designed by artist, Terry Duffy.
Diocese of Durham
Hillside Church St Cuthbert’s Marley Hill will display a cascade of more than 550 knitted poppies, flowing from one of the church’s windows. More events and services taking place in the diocese can be found on their website.
Diocese of Leeds
A delegation from the Hanover, led by Bishop Ralf Meister and including the Girls’ Choir of Hanover will participate in services, including a service on Remembrance Sunday at Ripon Cathedral. For more information on events, please visit this website.
Diocese of Leicester
The Bishop of Loughborough, the Rt Revd Guli-Francis Dehqani will lead an Armistice remembrance service at Leicester Cathedral on Sunday at 4pm. The service will mark the founding of the University of Leicester as a living war memorial.
Diocese of Lichfield
St Michael's, Chell Parish in Stoke-on-Trent has two plastic poppy displays. Church members and local schools recycled plastic bottles to create the displays. For more events being held in the diocese, please click here.
Diocese of Lincoln
The Parish of Boston has been running a Festival of Remembrance, which will culminate in a service on Sunday at 11.30am at St Boltoph’s. More information on services and events, can be found at the diocese's website.
Diocese of Liverpool
St Michael’s, Garston is holding a World War One exhibition on Saturday 10th, 10am to 4pm and on Sunday 11th, 12pm to 4pm. Stories will be told of those who lost their lives and the 227 men named on the memorial will also be remembered. More information on events and services in the diocese can be found on their website.
Diocese of Manchester
On Sunday, the bells of Manchester Cathedral will ring out to mark the 100 years since the end of World War One. At 12.30pm, the ringers will attempt a quarter peal to mark the centenary of the Armistice. Then at 7.05pm, they will join over 1,000 churches and cathedrals ringing their bells as part of Ringing Out for Peace organised in association with the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers, which represents 65 societies of ringers from the British Isles and overseas.
Diocese of Newcastle
An ecumenical service will be held at Hexham Abbey on Sunday at 3pm. The service will be led the Bishop of Newcastle, the Rt Revd Christine Hardman and regional church leaders. The Band of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers will join the Abbey choir with an anthem sung at the Abbey in 1918 during a service marking the end of the War.
Diocese of Oxford
People in Sandhurst have been creating poppies to add to the poppy cascade around the World War One memorial in St Michael and All Angels Church. Diocese of Portsmouth
Worshippers in Holy Trinity Church, Bembridge, on the Isle of Wight, will cover their village with thousands of hand-crafted poppies for Remembrance Sunday. For more details on Armistice Day events in the diocese, visit here.
Diocese of Rochester
St Nicholas, Southfleet has a suspension of poppies hanging from their bell tower.
Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham
There will be a special Eucharist at Southwell Minster at 3.30pm. The service will provide space for remembrance and reflection, particularly for those who have died as a result of conflict. The musical setting will be Fauré's Requiem, sung by the cathedral choir.
Diocese of Worcester
St Augustine’s Church in Dudley has a display of crosses outside the church representing each name that appears on the World War One memorial.
York Minister
York Minster will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War with a service of thanksgiving and commemoration on Sunday at 9.30am. The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, will preach at the service, which precedes the annual parade through York for the Service of Remembrance in the City Memorial Gardens at 11am. The service will be attended by members of the City of York Civic Party, the British Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force. For more information, please visit here.
