New Head of Media Operations announced

03/11/2016

The communications office of the Church of England has today announced the appointment of John Bingham as Head of Media Operations. John replaces Neill Harvey Smith who moved on from the role in July of this year.

John Bingham brings substantial experience to the post with 15 years in full time journalism with much of this at a senior level. He has held his current role as Religious and Social Affairs editor for the Daily Telegraph for almost 5 years having previously worked as a Senior Reporter for the Telegraph and Chief reporter for the Press Association.

Announcing the appointment the Rev. Arun Arora, Director of Communications for the Church of England, said: "This is an outstanding appointment. John's arrival reflects a strong confidence and ability in the Church's communications operations.  After a highly competitive process, I am delighted to welcome John to this senior role. He brings not only substantial experience and skills at a senior level but also the imagination and vision for communicating the work of the Church in transforming the lives of individuals and communities across the country."

John Bingham said: "The last eight-and-a-half years at the Telegraph have been an incredible adventure and I have had the privilege of covering stories which will stay with me forever. But it is time for a new challenge. This role offers the opportunity to work in an organisation with a great story to tell at an exciting moment in its history. I hope to be able not only to communicate that but, in doing so, play a part in it."

John will take up his role around the end of the year.
