John Bingham brings substantial experience to the post with 15 years in full time journalism with much of this at a senior level. He has held his current role as Religious and Social Affairs editor for the Daily Telegraph for almost 5 years having previously worked as a Senior Reporter for the Telegraph and Chief reporter for the Press Association.
Announcing the appointment the Rev. Arun Arora, Director of Communications for the Church of England, said:
"This is an outstanding appointment. John's arrival reflects a strong confidence and ability in the Church's communications operations. After a highly competitive process I am delighted to welcome John to this senior role. He brings not only substantial experience and skills at a senior level but also the imagination and vision for communicating the work of the Church in transforming the lives of individuals and communities across the country."
John Bingham said:
"The last eight-and-a-half years at the Telegraph have been an incredible adventure and I have had the privilege of covering stories which will stay with me forever. But it is time for a new challenge. This role offers the opportunity to work in an organisation with a great story to tell at an exciting moment in its history. I hope to be able not only to communicate that but, in doing so, play a part in it."
John will take up his role around the end of the year.
