The Church Commissioners are pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Minta as Head of Bishoprics and Cathedrals. Michael joins us from the Diocese of Chelmsford after six and a half years as Director of Development and Property.

The Church Commissioners provide housing and office accommodation for Diocesan Bishops and Archbishops in England and fund their working costs. Michael will be responsible for leading the Commissioners’ work in serving bishops and cathedrals in their ministry throughout England.

Michael will lead a department of 12 and act as Secretary to the Bishoprics and Cathedrals Committee. He will also be part of the team tasked with implementing the recommendations of the Cathedrals Working Group.

In welcoming Michael’s appointment Andrew Brown, Secretary to the Church Commissioners said: “With his record of service and experience of operational management of the Diocese of Chelmsford’s property portfolio and his considerable understanding of the Church of England, Michael is well equipped to lead the work supporting the ministries of bishops and cathedrals. Central to that is ensuring a culture of service delivery to Bishops, Deans and those who work with them. I look forward to welcoming him to the Commissioners’ senior leadership team.”

Michael Minta said: “I am very much looking forward to starting this new opportunity and the exciting challenges that come with a national role, whilst still serving in the Church of England, having thoroughly enjoyed carrying out my wonderfully varied duties at the Diocese of Chelmsford.”

The Rt Revd Stephen Cottrell, Bishop of Chelmsford said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Michael for all of his hard work and dedication over the past six years serving the Diocese of Chelmsford in the areas of property and development projects. I wish him all the best for the future as he takes on this new role serving the national church.”

Michael is part of the worshipping community at Chelmsford Cathedral, formally Chair of Governors at The Cathedral School, Chelmsford and currently a trustee of YMCA Essex. He will take up his new role at Church House on 18 February 2019, following the retirement of Paul Lewis in September 2018.
