Pastoral Guidance for use in conjunction with the Affirmation of Baptismal Faith in the context of gender transition
New guidance for parishes wishing to use the rite of Affirmation of Baptismal Faith in the context of gender transition in adults has been published by the Church of England. The pastoral guidance does not pre-empt the work of the 'Living in Love and Faith’ process, by which the Church of England continues to consider transgender matters as it produces a new set of teaching and learning resources on identity, sexuality and marriage.
The guidance can be accessed here.
About the Pastoral Advisory Group
Following the February 2017 Group of Sessions, the Archbishops of Canterbury and York issued a letter on 16th February outlining their proposals for continuing to address, as a church, questions concerning human sexuality. The Archbishops committed themselves and the House of Bishops to the creation of a Pastoral Advisory Group as an integral part of this. Further information was provided in a paper from the Archbishops published in June 2017, ‘Next Steps in Human Sexuality’ (GS Misc 1158).
