Delivering hope

Jonathan delivers food and hope to people in his area

I have been a delivery driver for Waitrose for six years. I like meeting different people. I get to drive around Lincoln and the countryside, delivering people the food that they want.

When I went for the job, I never thought it would be this, being a key worker. I do try and be a servant in my work and through what I say to people. Maybe God’s put me where I am at this time to do that.

Although I speak to people from a distance, at the moment there’s more interaction because people want to talk about what’s on their mind, especially if they are on their own. I try to be conscious of this and give folk time to talk and say something helpful. I just try to be slightly positive.

Back in March, before lockdown, our vicar read from Romans 12:10-13. There’s a verse in there about being joyful in hope, persevering in hardship and praying regularly. That’s what I keep going back to over the last few weeks. By praying, I also do some thinking and reflecting and letting God speak in the silence. I can do that in my van as I drive around.
