" I remember her visit to Bangor, Gwynedd, in 1977 when I was a student. When her car drove past me on the way to the town centre, she smiled and waved. I thought she couldn't be waving at me, but no one else was there. I was a republican at that time and until, as a student leader, I met the Prince of Wales at Lampeter three years later, as Chancellor of the University of Wales. I never met Her Majesty, but I have taught about her in Hungary since 1990, especially her decency and Christian faith. "
