Enabling Leaders is a programme of leadership development for those with leadership qualities who are disabled and/or neurodivergent. The cohorts include both lay and ordained participants.

The pilot year ran from November 2023-24, and concluded with a very positive final conference. The second cohort was recruited in autumn last year, and is currently half-way through the year-long programme. So far, they have attended residentials and webinars, hearing from high-quality and well-known speakers on topics ranging from Barriers, Goals, Strategy and Wellbeing. A recent highlight was a powerful talk given by Archdeacon Pete Spiers at last month’s residential conference at High Leigh.
Next steps
Nominations are now invited for Enabling Leaders 2026 – the third year of the programme!
Eligible candidates are those who are disabled and/or neurodivergent and who can demonstrate potential for leadership, perhaps by holding a senior lay position, or being a parish priest with a few years experience in that role and even exercising further responsibilities. Nominations are presented by the Diocesan Bishop, so any suggestions for candidates should be addressed to your Bishop in the first instance.
We are so pleased to have had a really positive response from our recent letter to Dioceses; several Bishops took the time to write back responding that they were carefully considering who their sponsored candidates for this important programme in 2026 might be.
