Every post, video, live streaming and activity on Facebook can be tracked and monitored. Meta allows users to access and track relevant insights for both Facebook pages and Facebook groups. One example of how it allows you to monitor the reach and engagement of users is by seeing how many like, shares and comments you’ve received over seven days, 28 days or custom dates. This makes it easy for you to compare different ways people have engaged with your content, page, group at different times.
What are the most important insight metrics to monitor?
Engagement metrics - for example likes, shares and comments - are important to monitor regularly to help your church understand what type of content your audience has resonated with the most. It can also be useful to be able to see if you have been getting more traffic from your current followers or if there is a new audience that is starting to see your content. You can also explore where those users are from and if they do fit your initial target audience.
By clicking on the reach and engagement numbers, you can access detailed analytics such as link clicks, reactions, and negative feedback. These insights help you refine your content strategy by helping identify where you can improve the engagement on your posts.
Insights Tab:
- Likes: Track the number of pages likes over time to understand how your page has grown. You can also use this data to identify trends and set realistic monthly goals to help increase your audience.
- Posts: The posts tab allows you to compare the reach and engagement of all your posts. Use this information to determine the best times to post and what types of content perform well. To go the extra mile you can experiment with different content formats to see what works best for your audience.
- Videos: In the videos tab, analyse the performance of your video content, including the number of views and average watch duration. Video content, especially live videos, can significantly boost engagement so consider using Facebook Live for real-time interaction with your community.
- People: The people tab provides demographic data about your audience, including age, gender, and location. Use this information to tailor your content to better suit your audience's preferences and needs.
When to look at Insights:
Regularly reviewing your Insights is beneficial to help you improve your content and find out which content is performing best so you can adjust your approach. We recommend that you establish a routine to check your metrics in order to stay informed about your page's performance. You can do this weekly, monthly or quarterly.
Actionable steps for small churches:
- You can use Insights to plan your content calendar, focusing on the types of posts that generate the most engagement and scheduling them for times when your audience is most active.
- Engagement isn’t just about posting content; it’s also about fostering a sense of community. Use insights to understand what topics are driving conversations and tailor your content accordingly. Making sure you respond to comments and messages promptly.
- Consider experimenting with new features and using the insights you gain from this to see if they will boost your reach and engagement in any way if you start to use them regularly.
One of the best ways to use insights in your planning is to keep an Excel document where you track the insight. You can easily download a CSV file which is often found on the right-hand side of each insight page, then use this information to record as much data as you wish. You don’t have to track everything, however, ensure to pick the metrics (likes, shares, comments etc.) that are best suited to your needs.
