This video introduces you to the legal significance and care of church registers. This is the responsibility of the parish priest, but if you're asked to help in any way, the video and the resources below may be helpful.
Resources
- Kevin Mayhew is a well-known supplier of Registrar's ink, and Registrar's fountain pens, but check where your church would normally replenish supplies from before ordering.
- Register and check on the Parish Buying website to see if there are any discounts available for Registrar's ink or pens.
- Read more about records and information management on the Church of England website.
- Search on the Church House Publishing website for official registers.
- Your diocesan registrar and Diocesan Records Office are on hand for guidance on church registers if needed.
Did you know?
A certified copy of an entry in a register can be as simple as a photocopy, but to be certified, it must be signed by the custodian and dated - appropriate wording would be:
“I certify that this is a true copy of the original which I have seen.
Signed ……........ (custodian’s job title).
Date: …........”
