The Church of England’s General Synod today welcomed the Church Commissioners’ and Archbishops’ Council’s long term spending plans.  

The Church Commissioners for England, as the Church of England's endowment fund has asked the BP board at its Annual General Meeting to say whether it plans to achieve net-zero emissions between 2050-2070.

NEWS / This afternoon General Synod affirmed its support for the National Investing Bodies’ (NIBs) approach to tackling climate change, including its ongoing strategy of engaging with companies rather than prematurely disinvesting from them.

The Church of England’s National Investing Bodies (NIBs) today updated General Synod on their progress against climate change measures agreed in July 2018. The update was presented by Loretta Minghella, First Church Estates Commissioner, and Clive Mather, Chair of the Church of England Pensions Board.

NEWS / The Church of England Pensions Board today announced the nomination of Clive Mather as the Chair of the Church of England Pension Board for a four-year term.

The Church Commissioners for England, who manage assets worth £8.7bn, including large land holdings in the UK, are the first investor to join a new Program to develop a framework that will help businesses tackle nature loss in line with science.

The Church Commissioners in January 2020 committed our investment portfolio to being net zero by 2050, in line with the Paris Agreement, as a member of the UN’s Asset Owner Alliance.

The Church of England Pensions Board has welcomed National Grid's commitment to publishing a comprehensive review of their lobbying activities on climate change, reversing their previous refusal to do so.
