The Government is being urged to lift the two-child limit on benefits in the wake of a sharp rise in new claims for Universal Credit caused by the coronavirus pandemic, in a new report published today.

The Universal Credit (Removal of the Two-Child Limit) Bill is having its third reading in the House of Lords on Friday, March 24. The Bishop of Durham, Paul Butler, who brought the Bill forward, explains why he believes the limit on the benefit’s scope should be removed.

The accounts of abuse shared at IICSA’s Child Migration hearing were harrowing and we commend the bravery of those former child migrants who came forward to share their experiences at the Inquiry.

The Church of England announced the publication today of its Briefing Paper on Shale Gas and Fracking.

Two new members with professional safeguarding expertise have been appointed to the Church’s National Safeguarding Panel (NSP), chaired by Meg Munn.

Following the recommendations made in IICSA’s investigation report into child migration programmes, published in March 2018, the National Safeguarding Team is now in dialogue with, on behalf of the Church of England, the Child Migrants Trust, an independent charity which supports child migrants and their families nationally and internationally. We await the UK government’s response to the IICSA’s recommendations.
