Call for a period of prayer leading up to the Coronation as book of Daily Prayers is shared

The House of Bishops met for the second meeting of 2023 by Zoom.

Cathedrals will be floodlit in the colours of the Ukrainian flag, candles will be lit and services, prayer vigils across the country in churches to mark the first anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

For the first time, under historic plans outlined today, same-sex couples will be able to come to church to give thanks for their civil marriage or civil partnership and receive God’s blessing.

The Church of England’s General Synod has called on the bishops to take the next step to issue prayers which would enable same-sex couples to come to church after a civil marriage or civil partnership to give thanks, dedicate their relationship to God and receive God’s blessing.

The College of Bishops and the House of Bishops met on Tuesday 17 January to discern a way forward for the Church of England on questions of identity, sexuality and marriage.

The Church of England is providing £5.6 million in funding for additional clergy posts across the country from rural areas to inner cities. 

The Archbishops of Canterbury and York, as Presidents of the General Synod of the Church of England, have agreed to proceed with a November meeting of Synod this year.
