This afternoon General Synod affirmed its support for the National Investing Bodies’ (NIBs) approach to tackling climate change, including its ongoing strategy of engaging with companies rather than prematurely disinvesting from them.

The Church of England’s General Synod today welcomed the Church Commissioners’ and Archbishops’ Council’s long term spending plans.  

The Church of England announced the publication today of its Briefing Paper on Shale Gas and Fracking.

The Church of England’s National Investing Bodies (NIBs) today updated General Synod on their progress against climate change measures agreed in July 2018. The update was presented by Loretta Minghella, First Church Estates Commissioner, and Clive Mather, Chair of the Church of England Pensions Board.

NEWS /  The Church of England Pensions Board, together with investors with assets totalling nearly £50bn, has filed a shareholder resolution at Rio Tinto calling on the company to review and fully disclose its relationships with industry bodies.

The Church Commissioners for England today reiterated support for the climate-related shareholder resolution, filed against the board of ExxonMobil, and calls on Exxon not to block the resolution going to a vote in 2020. 

NEWS / The Church of England Pensions Board today announced the nomination of Clive Mather as the Chair of the Church of England Pension Board for a four-year term.

The Church Commissioners for England, as the Church of England's endowment fund has asked the BP board at its Annual General Meeting to say whether it plans to achieve net-zero emissions between 2050-2070.

The Church Commissioners in January 2020 committed our investment portfolio to being net zero by 2050, in line with the Paris Agreement, as a member of the UN’s Asset Owner Alliance.
