Try the Church of England's Alexa Skill

Following lots of positive user feedback, we updated our Alexa skill in October 2018 with new functionality, enabling millions of users to:
  • Watch a new video every day and access the full range of films we’ve produced. The clips explore how churches serve their communities and how Christians live out their faith
  • A wider range of morning, mealtime, evening and night prayers. We’ve also added daily family prayers
  • Improved A Church Near You integration with maps.

The updated features work across Alexa devices.*

In addition, you can still ask for prayers and explanations of the Christian faith.

It also seeks to increase users' knowledge of the Christian faith by answering questions such as: what is the Bible? Who is God? What is a Christian? Many of the answers draw on material from the Pilgrim discipleship course and The Pilgrim Way: A Short Guide to the Christian Faith which also feature in the Our Faith section of this site.

How to use the skill on your Alexa device
You can activate the Church of England skill by saying:

“Alexa, open the Church of England”

Our future plans

While the Alexa skill has been built first, we are aiming to launch for Google Home and Apple HomePod devices in due course.

This is the phase one of the project, built jointly by the Church’s Digital and Church House Publishing teams with specialist developer Aimer Media Ltd. We’re planning to ensure users can find more answers to faith questions and to explore on other platforms in future.

The audio content features on the Church’s website as part of the prayer of the day. It will be integrated into Church House Publishing apps and audiobooks in due course.

* The skill will soon be available on Fire TVs and tablets when the Alexa software is updated.
