The liturgical resources include special prayers – or collects – to be used throughout the Jubilee Year, alongside a suggested Service of Thanksgiving.
As the nation celebrates the Queen’s 70 years of service, parishes and cathedrals will be marking the milestone with a range of events and special services to give thanks and pray for the monarch.
On the day of The Queen’s coronation in 1953 she asked for support through prayer: “I asked you all, whatever your religion, to pray for me on the day of my Coronation - to pray that God would give me wisdom and strength to carry out the promises that I should then be making.”
Other events which the resources will assist with include Jubilee Lunches, including a special grace. Additionally, tree planting ceremonies will be provided with a prayer for people to read as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative.
The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have both taken part in tree planting and each bishop in the Church of England was given a sapling by Forestry England in September 2021 to plant in their local dioceses.
Resources such as a downloadable National Anthem for use in online and onsite services, social media graphics and prayers for local churches to use to promote their Jubilee activities will be made available in the coming weeks.
The special weekend to mark The Queen’s Jubilee year (Thursday 2-Sunday 5 June) is expected to include national landmark events such as Trooping the Colour, concerts, and beacons being lit.
