Church attendance statistics

The annual Statistics for Mission return collects attendance and participation information from across the Church of England.

Statistics for Mission 2016 (published October 2017) provides the latest figures including:

  • Attendance at Church of England services
  • Baptisms
  • Marriages
  • Funerals

Parish finance statistics

Parish finance statistics are collected annually from throughout the Church of England.

Finance Statistics 2015 (published October 2017) provides the latest financial information, including:

  • Capital expenditure

Ministry statistics

Ministry data provide summary statistics about the number of clergy serving in the Church of England. Statistics include:

  • Numbers of stipendiary and non-stipendiary clergy
  • Numbers of ordinations
  • Ages and genders of clergy

Ministry Statistics 2016 (published September 2017) and Commentary provided by The Venerable Julian Hubbard, Director of Ministry, provides summary statistics of the number of clergy serving in the Church of England, including trends in total numbers in stipendiary and self-supporting ministry, age profiles, gender splits and ethnicity.

Detailed Diocesan tables can be found in a separate excel file.

Stipendiary clergy projections 2015-2035 (published September 2016) explores how increasing numbers of ordinations and changing retirement patterns could affect the number of stipendiary clergy. This cover note provided by the Ministry Division accompanies the report and references a companion report on vocations.

Cathedral attendance statistics are collected annually from all the Church of England's cathedrals.
