Welcome to the Closed Churches Division
The following webpages have all the information you need to know
on the work of the Commissioners and Church Buildings Uses and
Disposals Committee; the representation process; how to purchase or
lease a church building; and information for different groups
involved in and affected by the process.
The Closed Churches Division helps the Commissioners' Church
Buildings (Uses and Disposals) Committee to decide on the
future of churches closed for regular public worship. They will
nomally try to find a suitable alternative use, but if one is not
found the remaining options are either preservation or demolition.
You can find out more about the closure process by reading What happens
when a Church Building closes?
If a church closure or alternative use is proposed, the Closed
Churches Division will consult the public first. To find out how
you can make a representation, which is a comment either for or
against a proposal, visit How to Make
Comments on a Church Closure or Alternative Use.
