Responding as an emergency flood centre

When the bottom half of the town flooded in February 2021, Snaith's St Laurence Priory (Diocese of Sheffield) opened their doors to act as a community hub for the emergency response. For several weeks, the Grade I-listed building operated as a centre in which community members and emergency service workers could base themselves, with space for sleeping and facilities for cooking. Alongside these practical arrangements, the use of the church building in this way made a huge contribution to fostering a sense of community resilience and providing emotional support for local residents.
