I have been serving in the Truro Diocese as a Reader / Licensed Lay minister since 1988 and Chaplain to Readers for the last five years or so. I am part of the selection panel for Reader Ministry in the Diocese, a spiritual director and a volunteer safeguarding trainer and occasionally teacher of worship leading and leading intercessions in church.

My work as chaplain to the Readers in Training in Cornwall is complemented by also being a journal tutor and mentor. As Chaplain I need to be able to talk to people across the range of ‘churchmanship’ although my own faith and theology is liberal I am as happy leading Methodist worship as I am preaching in a high church setting.

My paid working life was in Primary Education and although officially retired I retain my contacts with schools through governance, music and story-telling and being a grandfather. My wife is churchwarden of St Andrews in Redruth and both our children live within a few miles so we are constantly engaged in activity either in church, with children or with schools. I use ZOOM and social media platforms extensively and often end up solving problems with the benefice office computer!

What else? Grandfather, walker, story teller & (limited) musician, dog owner and photographer.

The privilege to speak to people one to one in Spiritual Direction or a chaplaincy or mentoring situation is a delight and also a rest from the bustle of activity.
